Halimah Yacob wears brooch from local business at NDP 2026
A small business owner in Singapore was left in tears after spotting former President Halimah Yacob wearing one of her handmade brooches at the National Day Parade (NDP) 2026.
Serena Wong, the founder of local accessories brand Batik Sayang Singapore, shared the special moment with her social media followers on 10 Aug.

In the TikTok post, Serena appeared emotional as she watched footage of the celebrations and realised that Mdm Halimah was wearing a brooch from her brand.
“Sorry, I’m crying,” she said at the start of the video.
She also grew excited as she confirmed that Mdm Halimah was wearing the exact piece she had bought from Batik Sayang.

“She’s wearing the one that she bought,” exclaimed Serena, before breaking into laughter and tears.
She also appeared particularly delighted after noticing that Mdm Halimah had chosen the larger version of the Vanda Miss Joaquim inspired Big Brooch Motif.

“She wore the biggest!” she said, adding that she was “ugly crying” and was “so glad” that the cameraman had captured the moment.

The emotional moment was also shared with Batik Sayang’s supporters, whom Serena credited for helping the small business reach the milestone.
“It’s been a dream come true, and I have all of you to thank for,” she said in the caption.

She also thanked Mdm Halimah, as well as Member of Parliament Nadia Ahmad Samdin for wearing earrings from Batik Sayang.
“It’s definitely a core memory,” said Serena.

The post has since resonated with netizens, with many feeling proud and happy for the local business owner.
A netizen said they were “screaming to everyone at home” after seeing Mdm Halimah wearing the brooch.
They added that they had worn a piece from Batik Sayang to the NDP preview as well.

The brand currently offers several batik brooch designs, including the Vanda Miss Joaquim-inspired pieces in both small and large sizes.
