IKEA Has Minimalist CNY Snacks Like Bak Kwa & Salmon Yu Sheng From 18 Jan

IKEA CNY Snacks Available From 18 Jan

In the lead-up to Chinese New Year (CNY), pop-up stores peddling CNY goodies can be seen spawning all over heartland shopping malls.

But one unexpected company who’s fresh to the Bak Kwa scene has garnered significantly more attention than others.

Starting this Friday (18 Jan), you’ll be able to get yummy Chinese New Year (CNY) goodies from IKEA.

Yup you heard that right, the Swedish furniture maker is now churning out CNY snacks too!

Here’s a preview of what you can expect.

1. Bak Kwa ($20.80)

Bak Kwa is without doubt the popularity king among all CNY snacks, and IKEA is clearly telepathic in this regard.

IKEA’s bak kwa comes packaged in a tasteful red-and-white box — the perfect packaging for that Instagram shot that you’re planning to take.

2. Salmon Yu Sheng ($13.80)

Tossing yu sheng is an annual CNY tradition for many Singapore households. This year , instead of ordering your yu sheng from an atas restaurant, why not give IKEA’s a try?

IKEA’s yu sheng is affordably priced at just $13.80, so you can enjoy precious family time without going pok kai.

3. Pineapple Cookies & Kuih Bangkit (Under $10)

IKEA will also be releasing not 1 but 5 different cookies flavours this CNY.

With a wide array of flavours ranging from pineapple, nuts, and even kuih bangkit, everyone in your family’s guaranteed to find something that they fancy.

Those with a keen eye would’ve realised that the butter cookies are priced in Ringgit, which roughly converts to S$6.50. Not sure if that’s a typo, but we’ve reached out to IKEA for clarification.

4. Mandarin Oranges ($9.80)

You can’t possibly go CNY visiting without Mandarin oranges on hand. But unlike previous year where stocking up on Mandarin oranges involves a trip to the supermarket, you can now get them from IKEA too!

This huge box of 24 mandarin oranges will set you back just $9.80, so each individual orange will cost you just $0.40.

You can also top up an additional $9 to bring home this minimalistic basket, so you won’t have to worry about awkwardly lugging home that huge box.

Quite worth it if you ask us.
