3 NEL Stations To Close Early On Fri & Sat From 8-30 Mar
Nightowls of the North East Line (NEL) may temporarily have to forgo their nocturnal habits.
On Fridays and Saturdays between 8 and 30 Mar, NEL stations HarbourFront, Outram Park, Chinatown and Clarke Quay will be closing at 11pm.
This is about an hour earlier than the usual closing time at 12 midnight.
The Fridays and Saturdays affected are:
- 8, 9 Mar
- 15, 16 Mar
- 22, 23 Mar
- 29, 30 Mar
More hours for repairwork
According to the Land Transport Authority (LTA) website, the early closures will facilitate “maintenance and asset renewal work.”
That probably, hopefully, means fewer breakdowns and congested platforms especially during rush hours.
Shuttle bus from HarbourFront to Dhoby Ghaut
SMRT isn’t going to leave you train travellers stranded.
Shuttle Bus Service 22 will be running between HarbourFront and Dhoby Ghaut from 11pm on the affected Fridays and Saturdays.
The bus will stop at bus stops and interchanges near the affected stations.
Last train to Punggol to run later
To accommodate the longer travel times in between the affected stations, trains from Dhoby Ghaut to Punggol will run till later, with the last service at 12.36am.
LRT services in Sengkang and Punggol will also run for about half-an-hour longer, ending at about 1am instead of 1230am.
Commuters advised to check station-specific timings
The departure timings for the trains may vary from day to day.
So it’s better to do a quick check on LTA’s website for the last train if you’re looking to catch it that night.
You wouldn’t want to be rushing down the escalator only to get mad because the station is already closed.
