Sneaking in, the man then stuck his arm through the window with his phone to take photos. The 22-year-old woman screamed when she noticed, spooking the culprit.
Zeng stopped filming as he fled the home to a nearby mall. He also deleted all the photos and videos he had taken of her to prevent himself from being exposed.
When he eventually decided to return home, he was arrested by the police, who had already been called.
Man said he had done it because the act excited him
According to charge sheets, this was not an isolated incident.
From 20 June to 18 Aug, Zeng filmed his housemate a total of 10 times. This included situations of her in the shower or undressing herself in her room.
In court, he admitted that secretly filming her excited him.
Zeng went on to add that it was a method of relief from the pressures of his studies.
Police were unable to recover any evidence from his phone as Zeng deleted the photos and videos.
The prosecution asked for at least six and a half months in jail for Zeng. Meanwhile, the defence asked for a deferment of his punishment, citing that Zeng is currently in his final semester at NUS.
The court will reconvene on 16 Dec.
