Man Collapses During 205km Bike Challenge, Pronounced Dead In Hospital
On 31 Dec, 56-year-old photographer Alan Ng collapsed during a 205km bike challenge and was pronounced dead in the hospital.
The avid cyclist was well-loved by the local community.
Tributes poured in following news of his passing.
Photographer passes away during 205km bike challenge
Shin Min Daily News reported that Mr Ng had been participating in the Brompton 205km bike challenge, which began on the night of 30 Dec.
At around 6am, Mr Ng and his group of friends were at Nanyang Technological University (NTU) when after cycling past a road with a slope, he started to feel chest discomfort, according to one of his friends who did not want to be named.
After resting for a while, Mr Ng continued to cycle, but this time, he abruptly collapsed.
Although members of the public and other cyclists tried to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), Mr Ng did not wake up. He was subsequently brought to the hospital in an ambulance and was pronounced dead there.
Police confirmed that they received a report at around 6.51am on 31 Dec that a 56-year-old man was sent to the hospital unconscious and pronounced dead.
Caring man who was well-loved by cycling community
Shin Min Daily News interviewed Mr Ng’s 85-year-old mother, who said her son was filial and would pack dinner for her every day even though he does not live with her.
Whenever the international photographer received a photography job abroad, he’d visit and tell her about it before departing.
Friends in the cycling community also said Mr Ng was a caring person, describing him as a cheerful character with “ultimate video taking and editing skills”.

Wake will be held on 4 Jan
According to an SG PCN Cyclist user, Mr Ng’s wake is being held at Block 10 Toh Yi Drive.

His cortege will depart on 4 Jan, and cremation will be held at Mandai Crematorium Hall 3 on the same day.
