J-pop idol quits group after 1 day over ‘repulsive’ fans, says she may return when ‘creepy otaku’ are gone

Japanese idol Nagisa Juri quits one day after debut over ‘disgusting’ performances and ‘repulsive’ fans

A Japanese idol has called it quits just one day after making her debut, citing the group’s “disgusting” performances and “repulsive” fans.

On 19 Oct, Japanese idol group Planck Stars announced the departure of its newest member, Nagisa Juri, who had made her debut just the day before.

According to the group, Juri found its live performance style “dirty and disgusting”, while she also considered its fans “equally unpleasant and repulsive”.

Despite her swift departure, the singer hinted that she might return someday, saying she would consider performing with the group again “once the creepy fans are gone”.

Idol group known for its ‘free-spirited delinquent’ concept

Juri was announced as a new member of Planck Stars on 17 Oct and made her stage debut the following day, on 18 Oct.

However, she left the group just one day after her debut, citing its wild live performances and the behaviour of some fans.

Planck Stars is a Japanese underground idol group from Hiroshima that debuted in 2018.

The group’s concept has been described as “free-spirited delinquents”, with its name also sounding similar to the word “pranksters”.

True to that concept, the group has become known for its controversial antics over the years, including releasing 300 live crickets into an audience, hammering and kicking down the ceiling of a venue, and throwing ink and soy sauce at concertgoers.

The group also reportedly made a fan consume dishwashing liquid during a performance in 2023.

On 8 Feb 2026, the group drew backlash after a member performed in a school swimsuit amid heavy snowfall at the Sapporo Snow Festival.

Management later apologised, but clarified that the member had chosen to wear the outfit without informing them beforehand and had not been forced to do so.

The agency also acknowledged its responsibility for failing to prevent the incident and said it would tighten its rules on reporting performance outfits in advance.

Planck Stars later announced a suspension of activities on 16 May. The following day, the same members began activities as a successor group called Prankclean Stars, although performances under the Planck Stars name subsequently continued.

Requested to leave group to rest physically and mentally

In its official statement, Planck Stars revealed that Juri had been struggling with the group’s performances and fan culture for some time.

Despite trying to put up with the situation, she had reportedly been telling fans and fellow members things like “I want to quit soon” and “This is really disgusting” to relieve her stress.

However, things eventually reached a point where even performing live had become mentally unbearable for her.

As a result, Juri requested to leave the group so she could rest and recover both physically and mentally.

Following discussions among the members, the decision was made to accept her departure, with Planck Stars continuing its performances with a different line-up from 20 Oct.

Management added that the remaining members would continue putting their “heart and soul” into their live performances and other activities.

Nagisa Juri says she may perform with Planck Stars again

However, Juri’s departure might not spell the end of her time with Planck Stars.

In a quote repost of the group’s statement, Juri apologised for the sudden announcement of her graduation.

She then added:

Once the creepy otaku are gone, I think I’ll perform with Planck Stars again.

The Japanese term “otaku” typically refers to someone with an intense interest in a particular hobby or fandom, such as anime or idol culture.

Some fans subsequently wished Juri well following her sudden departure.

Her comments also came shortly after Planck Stars issued a warning about inappropriate fan behaviour during her debut performance on 18 Oct.

According to the group, a fan approached a member who was lying on a bed during the performance without permission and forcibly lay down beside her.

In its warning posted on X, Planck Stars described the act as serious sexual harassment and said similar behaviour could result in immediate removal, an indefinite ban from its events, or even legal action.

The group added that it would take strict action against any behaviour that threatened the physical safety and dignity of its members.
