Rainbow Poop Museum Opens This March In Yokohama, Because Japan

Rainbow Poop Museum To Open In Yokohama On March

The sakura season just got more interesting with an upcoming poop-themed museum in Yokohama.

The Unko Museum, aka the Poop Museum, is scheduled to open on 15 Mar to mark the annual return of the blushing pink cherry blossom season.

Like all-things Japan-related, the poop will be kawaii. Instead of hyper-realistic poop piles, expect vast arrays of poop swirls in vibrant shades of pastels, covered in shiny glitter.

While there aren’t pics from the museum (yet), we’ve done some research and found some information for this bizarre destination.

3-themed zones

Unko museum has three themed zones namely ‘un’teractive, ‘un’stagenic, and ‘un’telligence.

Despite its namesake, the ‘un’teractive zone will have interactive art like swirls of poop-like images staring back at you. It includes a retro-style poop game where you can step on light projections of glittery poop that will visually splatter in the room.

You might have been taught that all poo belongs in the potty, but this installation proves that poop fights might be the next big thing.

The ‘un’stagenic zone is where you’ll find photogenic swirls of assorted coloured poop inside a pretty Pepto-Bismol-pink room.

Snagging a jumpshot Boomerang in a room full of floating poop meringues will give you a great story to tell when you get back to Singapore.

Some of our most thought-provoking ideas may come to life in the loo.

While we’re not sure what kind of conversations poop art will provoke, the ‘uninitelligence’ zone will let you gaze on poo-insipired sketches or make a mark with one of your very own artworks.

Unberuto mascot

Japan has pioneered some of the most iconic cartoons of the 90s like Hello Kitty, Dragonball and Doraemon — it’s no surprise that they’ve got a new mascot for the museum too.

The upcoming Unberuto mascot will be an intellectual philosopher who contemplates universal truths. Anything can happen in a poop-filled room, so Unberuto constantly poops to keep the museum safe and enjoyable for visitors.

Japan’s poop trend

Japan just loves the bizarre, and their dedication to making even the shittiest thing look kawaii is evident in the many toilet-themed cafes and merch they have.

Tokyo’s Sweet Good Grief Cafe has garnered some fame thanks to their rainbow-coloured cotton candy that’s bound to make pastel lovers do a double take.

There’s also poop emoji soft serve ice cream served in miniature toilets.

Unlike the museum’s splattering poop, at least this mushy concoction stays in one place.

Modern Toilet in Tokyo offers a similar goeey chocolate ice cream that hopefully offers a not-so repugnant culinary experience.
