Netizens share renovation trends they encountered in Singapore
Designing a home in Singapore can be tricky as some houses, such as HDB flats, have multiple factors to account for, including neighbours, room sizes, and more.
However, one netizen questioned if some design choices are reasonable or purely for aesthetics.

Doesn’t understand ‘frameless doors’
To start the discussion, the original posted (OP) shared that they do not understand “frameless doors”, asking someone to explain the reason behind the choice.

“I never once visited a house and thought, ‘Wow, this would look way better if the doors didn’t have frames’,” wrote the OP.
They then wondered if the design was a case of “minimalism for the sake of minimalism”.
Netizens question tenants’ choice for standing fans instead of ceiling fans
In response to the post, netizens shared what they thought were the most questionable renovation choices they have come across.
Most observed that tenants often opt for standing fans, instead of ceilings fans because of aesthetics.

For some netizens, aesthetics taken from places around the world such as Japan, or even Santorini, is “too much” and cannot be replicated authentically in a HDB flat.
They cited design choices such as installing wooden beams on the ceilings of their HDB unit to evoke “rustic feels”.

Similar to the OP, a few netizens agreed that tenants prefer aesthetics over practicality.
One commenter noted the “luxe” design trend as being particularly impractical.
“Marble is expensive, shit to maintain, and unless you have a helper, the idea of dusting every light fixture makes me want to gag,” they wrote.
