SIA Engineering Staff Dies From Injuries At Raffles Hospital On 3 Jan

On 22 Dec 2019, a 63-year-old staff of SIA Engineering Company (SIAEC) fell from a height while carrying out maintenance works on an aircraft.

He fought for his life for 2 weeks at Raffles Hospital before succumbing to his injuries on 3 Jan, according to a report by The New Paper (TNP).

SIAEC now has to review and address any safety lapses.

SIA Engineering staff fell while fixing aircraft

The worker was carrying out maintenance works on an aircraft at 31 Airline Road when he fell from a height on 22 Dec 2019, said the Ministry of Manpower (MOM).

He was taken to Raffles Hospital, but died from his injuries 2 weeks later on 3 Jan 2020.

MOM is currently investigating the accident, and has told SIAEC to assess and address any lapses in their work procedures and risk controls.

Raffles Hospital instead of CGH because of insurance coverage

A netizen questioned why the injured worker was sent to Raffles Hospital instead of Changi General Hospital (CGH), which was nearer.

Another netizen explained that Raffles Medical Group provides medical coverage for Changi Airport.

There are Raffles Medical clinics at all terminals of the airport, according to Changi Aiport’s website.
