Sadly, the plan for a blissful union came crashing down after his tragic demise.

Mr Muhammad Afiq Senawi passed away yesterday (23 Mar) in an accident that apparently involved a hydraulic press machine.

On Tuesday (24 Mar) afternoon, his friends and family gathered at his home in Bukit Panjang to remember him and pay their respects.

His first cousin told ST that he was a “good person” as he reminisced about their childhood sleepovers, tearing up as he spoke.

Some of his National Service (NS) friends showed up to pay their respects as well. They told ST that they had known Mr Afiq since 2008.

Many fondly remember him as an outgoing man, with a good spirit and a pleasant sense of humour.

Current safety measures under review

In a statement on Monday (23 Mar), Mr Melvin Yong – executive secretary of the National Transport Workers’ Union – said that the union plans on reviewing the current safety measures in the train depot, alongside SMRT.

ST wrote that details of the accident were unknown, apart from the fact that it involved a hydraulic press machine. Apparently, those who operate the machine are required to be in a safety cage.

Mr Yong also mentioned that Mr Afiq’s family would be given ample assistance and support in view of their loss.

Mr Afiq will be buried at Pusara Abadi Cemetery this evening (24 Mar).

MS News extends our deepest condolences to his family.

We hope all other technicians and workers keep safe as they work.
