Woman spots man wiping his sweat on bus stop bollards
On Wednesday (21 Oct), MS News received a tip-off from a reader about an unsettling sight she had witnessed a day earlier.
The reader, Charlotte, shared a video showing a topless elderly man wiping the sweat off his body with his hands.
In between each wipe, he appears to rub his hands on a bollard.
Charlotte said she took the video on Tuesday (20 Oct) at around 9:30 pm at a bus stop along Jalan Bukit Merah.
Bystander “rubbing” bollard was man’s OCD compulsion
Charlotte did not immediately realise the man was wiping his sweat at the bollards.
“I initially noticed him rubbing his hands quite aggressively on each bollard he was walking by, which I thought was weird,” she told MS News.
She also suspected the man was doing this due to an Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) compulsion.

It was only when the man reached the last bollard that Charlotte realised he had been wiping his sweat on the posts.
She added that it was her first time seeing such behaviour.
Man did not acknowledge woman at the bus stop
Charlotte also shared that she was the only person waiting at the bus stop at the time.

Additionally, the man never stopped to acknowledge her presence amid his actions.
Charlotte also claimed she had not seen the man do any physical activity which could have caused him to be sweaty.
However, based on his attire, her “best guess is [that] he was running”.
Unclear if man broke any rule
While the man’s actions were unsavoury, it is not certain whether he actually broke any laws.
No particular ordinance under the National Environment Agency’s (NEA) Environmental Public Health Act and Public Cleansing Regulations regulates sweat wiped off an individual’s body.
However, repeatedly soiling shared surfaces, such as the bollards, may be considered damage or misuse of property.
