Motorcyclist skids and falls on road at Tuas Viaduct after trying to lane-split between lorries

On 19 Aug, the rider of a Malaysia-registered motorcycle skidded and tumbled onto the road of Tuas Viaduct after trying to lane split.

The Singapore Police Force (SPF) and Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) were alerted to the accident at around 5.10pm.

Motorcycle attempts to lane split between two lorries

In a video posted on the SGRV ADMIN Facebook page, a motorcycle is driving in the middle of the road on the Tuas Viaduct highway.

The motorcyclist is seen approaching two lorries, cruising at approximately the same speed.

He then attempts to drive through the pocket of space between the two vehicles.

However, the lorry on the right lane slightly veers towards its left, causing the motorcyclist to side-swipe into the lorry.

Impact so strong the motorcycle spins

The impact topples the motorcyclist off-balance, causing the bike to swerve before the rider falls onto the ground.

Additionally, the impact is so strong that it sends the motorcycle spinning for a second.

Witnessing the crash, the driver of a white van travelling behind the motorcyclist stopped to check on the rider.

Meanwhile, the lorry driver could be seen stopping his vehicle in the distance.

One person conveyed to hospital

In response to queries from MS News, the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said they conveyed one person to National University Hospital.

The accident had occurred along Tuas Viaduct towards Pioneer Road, said SPF.

Following the incident, a 27-year-old male motorcyclist was conveyed conscious to the hospital.

Police investigations are ongoing.
