Driver spots two women walking along Singapore highway at 3am during Hungry Ghost Festival
A Singapore driver was left startled after seeing two women walking along the Pan Island Expressway (PIE) and the Thomson Flyover at about 3am during the Hungry Ghost Festival.
Driver comes across two women on highway
A TikTok uploaded by @follownat on Tuesday (18 Aug) captured the eerie encounter from the driver’s dashcam.
The text overlay on the video said: “Imagine seeing this on the highway at 3am on 7th month.”
In the video, the Original Poster (OP) could be seen driving along a largely empty and brightly lit road at night.
@follownat Bro wtf was that? Scared the shit out of me. #7month #singapore #tiktoksg
As the car continued forward, a woman suddenly appeared by the side of the road next to the vehicle.
She was dressed in a light-coloured top and what seemed like a skirt.
In a state of shock, the OP was heard blurting out an expletive.

The OP then continued past her, only to spot another woman further ahead.
This time, the person wore different clothing: what appeared to be a T-shirt and jeans.

This time round, the OP wrote: “2nd one??” in the text overlay, trying to come to terms with what he had just seen.
Mixed reactions by netizens, some say they were jaywalkers
The TikTok clip has since drawn attention online, with the unusual timing and location adding to the eeriness.
A netizen said that the incident was “not funny” at all, to which the OP replied that “seeing a woman while driving alone at night” was one of their irrational fear.

A commenter pointed out that they were definitely “hantu” (ghost in Malay) as it was “not 1 but 2”.

A TikTok user speculated that the two women may have dropped something on the road and were looking for it, but the OP debunked it.

Another netizen felt that they were probably trying to jaywalk, but the OP explained that they were not trying to cross the highway.

Heading home after a busy night
Speaking to MS News, the OP, Nathaniel, said the spooky incident took place on 18 Aug at about 2.48am.
Nathaniel shared that he was driving on the PIE, heading towards the Thomson Flyover at that time.
“I was heading home after a busy night preparing for a big shoot the next day,” said the director of a video & photo production company.
He told MS News that his initial reaction was one of shock and disbelief when he saw the human figure on the side of the road.
“I almost swerved away in order not to hit her (the first woman),” Nathaniel recalled.
He added that he saw the second woman about five lamp posts ahead, about 150m away.
OP knew it was Hungry Ghost Festival
Nathaniel said he was aware that it was the lunar seventh month, and was trying to reach home before 3am as he had encountered “weird things before”.
However, this was the first time that he actually “saw something”.
He said: “I know it’s just a woman, but it’s really strange to see her in the middle of a highway, especially at 3am where the road leads nowhere.”

Nathaniel described the whole incident as “very strange” and did not think the two women were jaywalking or suicidal.
He has since posted a part two of the incident, sharing dashcam footage of another driver who also allegedly came across the women at around the same time.
According to him, the incident became even stranger when he compared the two video footages and noticed that one of the women appeared to have mysteriously moved from one location to another.
