Group of cyclists face fines for riding at night without lights or helmets
Seventeen cyclists and one Personal Mobility Device (PMD) user were caught following a joint enforcement operation by the Singapore Police Force (SPF) and the Land Transport Authority (LTA).
In a statement on Sunday (23 Aug), SPF said the operation was conducted on 14 Aug in the vicinity of Jalan Anak Bukit and West Coast Highway, targeting errant cyclists and PMD users.

A total of 26 offences were detected during the operation.
Cyclists caught for safety violations
Among the offences, 13 involved cyclists riding on roads during hours of darkness without the required white light at the front and/or red light or red reflector at the rear.
Another 10 offences involved cyclists riding on roads without wearing protective bicycle helmets.

Officers also found one cyclist riding a fixed-gear bicycle on a public path without a working handbrake.
The bicycle was seized, and investigations are ongoing.
As 26 offences were detected among 18 riders, some individuals were found to have committed more than one offence.
PMD seized after rider caught using unregistered, non-compliant device
The sole PMD user was caught riding a device that was both unregistered and non-compliant on a public path, accounting for two offences.

During the operation, Traffic Police and LTA officers also engaged cyclists and PMD users to raise awareness of cycling and PMD rules and guidelines.
SPF said it takes a serious view of illegal riding behaviour that endangers riders and other road users.
The police and LTA added that they will continue conducting regular enforcement operations, while reminding cyclists and PMD users to comply with traffic rules and practise safe riding habits.
