S’poreans Can Trade Plastic Bottles For Food At Tiong Bahru Market On 15 Sep

Discounts At Tiong Bahru Market To Reduce Plastic Waste

You may have plastic bottles lying around at home from all the times you bought a chilled drink to help quell the heat.

If you’re thinking of throwing them away, consider this.

On 15 Sep, folks from Tiong Bahru Market and the World Wildlife Fund Singapore are running an initiative where Singaporeans can ‘trade-in’ plastic bottles in exchange for food coupons.

Plastic bottles collected will be recycled

The recycling initiative is pretty straightforward — bring along your rinsed plastic bottles and exchange them for $0.50 food vouchers at the WWF booth in the market.

The vouchers can be used to purchase hawker food at the market on the same day.

Each person is allowed to exchange up to 10 bottles under this initiative, which corresponds to $5 worth of food vouchers.

Plastic bottles collected on the day will be recycled.

In addition to trading in your used plastic bottles, you can also bring along a reusable container to receive an additional $1 off your meals.

As most Singaporeans would know, Tiong Bahru is home to countless famous hawkers stall, most notably the rojak and porridge stall.
