72-Year-Old Man Suffers Constipation For 3 Days, Dies After Trying Too Hard In The Toilet

Man Dies From Over-Exerting Himself On The Toilet After 3 Days Of Constipation

Every single one of us must have experienced the pain and agony that comes with constipation. While the discomfort may be pretty overwhelming, it normally goes away after the ‘deed’ is done.

A 72-year-old man wasn’t that lucky, reported Malaysia Chinese news outlet Sin Chew Daily. After having constipation for 3 days, the man allegedly died because he over-exerted himself in the toilet.

Man had high blood pressure

According to Sin Chew Daily, Mr Song from Zhejiang Province had coronary artery disease and high blood pressure.

After experiencing constipation for 3 consecutive days, Mr Song attempted to relieve himself before going to bed last Tuesday (7 Jan).

He somehow fainted in the toilet and was sent to the hospital by his family members.

Unfortunately, hospital staff failed to resuscitate Mr Song.

According to the doctor, Mr Song had used too much force in the toilet, which led to a spike in his chest pressure and a plunge in heart rate, finally causing his heart to stop.

Possible to faint from straining during constipation

Mr Song’s accident may be linked to a fainting spell called Vasovagal syncope.

According to Mount Elizabeth Hospital, “straining may trigger the vasovagal reflex and syncope” of elderly people who have constipation.

The best way to alleviate the faintness is to lie on one’s back with the knees bent. If that isn’t possible, a low squat would do the trick.

This fainting spell is typically “non-life threatening”, but Mr Song’s case could have been exacerbated by his pre-existing medical condition.

Rest in peace Mr Song.

It’s unfortunate that Mr Song’s life ended in such a sudden way.

MS News offers our condolences to the Song family.

We hope everyone can stay healthy and safe, and be especially careful if you are sick.
