Chinese Barbers Can’t Get To Close To Customers, So They Attach Snipping Tools To Sticks
As Covid-19 still looms over our heads, we’re being flooded with health advisories and reminders to wash our hands and disinfect surfaces daily.
One of the most common ways to minimise infection, according to health authorities worldwide, would be to avoid close contact with others.

Barbers come up with creative solution to retain business
For some of us, it’s not that easy to do that, as our jobs put us in close proximity to clients daily.
Take these barbers in China. With people wary about getting too close, they knew something had to be done to prevent their business from taking an even greater hit than it already had.
That’s why they came up with the incredibly creative solution of a “long-distance” haircut.
Check out the South China Morning Post’s (SCMP’s) video below to see it in action:
Barbers seem to be having no problem welding sticks skilfully
In the video, the barbers can be seen washing and cutting customers’ hair as usual, but with their hairstyling tools like razors and combs attached to the ends of sticks.
The sticks seem to provide lots of space between barber and customer, so assuage fears of infection by either party from a long period of close proximity.
What’s most impressive about this as the barbers don’t seem to be hindered by the sticks at all. In fact, judging from the video, they seem to be welding them skilfully, scrubbing their client’s heads and trimming their hair like the sticks are extensions of their hands.
One barber is even using two sticks, one in each hand!
Far from being shortchanged, it looks like the customers are having a pretty good wash and trim, and even seem to be enjoying the experience, too!
Ensuring clients feel safe & comfortable
According to the SCMP, the salon started this service so their clients would feel safe, as China has recorded the highest number of infections and fatalities in the world.
Apparently, their regular customers were keen to give the service a try.
The video states that the salon offers the “long-distance” haircut to customers “based on their requirements”, so it possibly can be adaptable to specific needs.
Going the extra mile for customers
We think this is a stellar example of great customer service.
Sure, getting a haircut like this looks ridiculous and is also fun to watch, but that’s besides the point. The sentiment behind this service is genuine and shows that this salon truly cares for its customers by going above and beyond to ensure they are safe and at ease, while also giving them the best haircut experience possible amid less-than-optimal conditions.
We can’t say that we hope to see this happening here, but we’d love to see the same level of consideration and care from our service providers.
Perhaps the barbers should offer the “long-distance” haircut even after the Covid-19 crisis is over!
