400,000 Lower-Income Households To Receive Up To $20 Million In Vouchers
Covid-19 has proved to be a tough time for us, especially on the economic front.
Thankfully, aid is coming to lower-income families in the form of vouchers, as up to 400,000 households will receive up to $20 million in vouchers.
This was announced by the People’s Association on Friday (12 Jun), in a press release reported by Channel NewsAsia (CNA).
Under the Community Development Council (CDC) Vouchers Scheme, selected households will receive $50 worth of vouchers in $2 denomination.
Households can use vouchers at over 2,500 merchants
Recipients can use these vouchers at all participating stores from 25 Jun-31 Dec.
So far, more than 2,500 merchants have signed up. They include food stalls, neighbourhood provision shops, TCM halls, hairdressing outlets, mini-marts and even family clinics.
The vouchers aim to not just help out lower-income families, but also support local businesses.
Interested participants can contact their constituency office to join in.
Selected households notified by end-July
According to The Straits Times, collection will be done in batches to avoid crowds.
Selected households will be notified where and when to collect their vouchers from 15 Jun till the end-July, via mail. Even so, households have up till 1 Dec to collect them.
To collect the vouchers, representatives must bring along the letter, as well as one NRIC per household.
Those that require more assistance can reach out to their respective community clubs, who will refer them to a relevant government agency.
Getting through tough times together
It’s comforting to know that there are schemes in place which cater to those that need assistance.
Hopefully, these vouchers can help some lower-income families out, and aid them when it comes to daily necessities.
Let’s continue to support each other, as well as our local businesses, so that all of us can get through this rough patch together.
