Douyin Frog Mascot Attends Woodlands Buddhist Temple’s Prayer Ceremony For Pets, Amuses The Internet

Viral Frog Mascot Blessed At Buddhist Temple’s Prayer Ceremony For Pets

Attending blessing ceremonies is part and parcel of life for many Buddhists in Singapore. As a religion that celebrates all living beings, some temples even offer blessings for pets.

A Buddhist temple in Woodlands recently held one such ceremony for some furry companions.

Interestingly, an unexpected guest showed up to receive blessings as well — the viral Douyin frog mascot.

The temple has since taken to TikTok to share some moments with the special visitor.

Frog mascot & inflatable frogs attends Buddhist ceremony, receives blessings from monk

On Thursday (27 July), BW Monastery — a Buddhist temple in Woodlands — posted a short clip of the encounter on TikTok.

The video shows the viral frog mascot receiving blessings from a monk at the Buddhist temple’s prayer ceremony for pets.

It also depicted the green creature walking along the parameters of the compound with other devotees.

There was also a photograph of the frog mascot seemingly waiting for its turn at the Buddhist ceremony. They occupied one seat, while one of their signature inflatable frogs took the chair beside them.

Another picture in the clip showed a girl, presumably another devotee, holding an inflatable frog while the mascot held another.

The third image had the mascot hugging the inflatable frog that was previously on the chair next to them.

Posed for pictures with other attendees

BW Monastery also posted a group photo of the devotees — humans and pets — who attended the event on Instagram. The star of the show was, of course, the frog mascot and their inflatable friend.

According to the in-video captions, the viral frog mascot had attended the temple’s pet refuge-taking puja.

In Buddhism, the refuge-taking puja refers to the ceremony where people  — or in this case, pets and mascots — officially become Buddhists.

It involves taking the vows of the religion and committing to living a life guided by the principles of Buddhism.

Adorable sight tickles TikTok users

There were only a handful of comments on the monastery’s TikTok video. However, most of them were about how adorable the whole encounter was.

Some users, like this one, said the bizarre sight of the frog mascot waiting for their turn to receive blessings is “so cute”.

Not sure about you but are pretty sure that the frog mascot has earned some good karma simply for putting a smile on everyone’s faces.
