Pioneer generation & CHAS card holders get special price at Serangoon durian stand

A durian stand in Serangoon is offering a special price to those from the pioneer generation and Community Health Assistance Scheme (CHAS) card holders.

Within the durian season, these individuals can purchase Mao Shan Wang (MSW) durians from Pahang, Malaysia, for S$5 each.

The co-director of Lexus Durian King, who prefers to be known as Durian Sis, told MS News that the durians are typically sold for S$18 to S$20 per kilogram.

At the start of the durian season, they were priced much higher at S$25 to S$28 per kilogram.

Beneficiaries can walk in & flash cards to enjoy exclusive deal

The store announced the promotion on its Facebook page on Wednesday (26 June).

It noted that pioneer generation members and CHAS card holders can walk in and flash their cards to enjoy the exclusive deal.

Responding to MS News‘ queries, Lexus Durian King shared that it will extend the S$5 promotion for as long as possible within the durian season.

Additionally, other customers are also entitled to a special promotion of S$8 per kilogram of MSW durians.

Due to overwhelming response to the store’s flash deal on Tuesday (25 June), it has decided to continue the S$8 promotion while stocks last.

Held promotion to allow beneficiaries to purchase durians at affordable price

The store’s co-director also told MS News that it did not hold the promotion to make profits.

“We understand that times are bad and some families would very much love to eat MSW but may not be able to afford,” she shared.

Speaking to 8world News, 33-year-old customer Xie Jiawei (transliterated from Chinese) praised the store for offering the special discount to the elderly.

He added that this was a good practice that allows the pioneer generation to freely enjoy the durians.

Sharing the same sentiments, another customer noted that not everyone can afford the prices of “good durians” on weekdays.
