Started her fitness journey at age 60

She revealed that after working in finance for many years, her poor health led to three surgeries. Determined to improve her condition, she turned to exercise, which helped her regain her health.

Gym grandma says she exercises to be healthy

Sharing her fitness goals, Grandma Bai clarified that her aim isn’t to build big muscles but to maintain her health.

“I think the reason why older people age is because they lose muscle quickly,” she explained.

Through years of consistent exercise, she has managed to build muscle and reduce visceral fat around her stomach.

In addition to her fitness routine, Grandma Bai enjoys cooking, specialising in dishes such as braised pork belly and sweet and sour short ribs. She also makes her own steamed buns and snacks.

Many netizens marvelled at how she has maintained her fitness routine for 19 years.

Grandma Bai responded by saying: “Fitness is effective because you persist, not just because it works quickly.”

Doctor says exercise accelerates healing

Dr Lu Hui, a plastic surgeon in Beijing, weighed in on the benefits of fitness, saying it not only enhances physical health, but also has a positive impact on mental well-being.

He also recalled performing surgery on a professional athlete who recovered much faster than others who had also undergone surgery at the same time.

“His good physical foundation and strong adaptability made his recovery period relatively short,” the doctor explained.
