Flooding occurs in Bukit Timah, Bukit Purmei & Tampines after heavy rain on 14 Oct

Heavy rain fell across Singapore on Monday (14 Oct), causing flooding at a number of locations across Singapore.

According to the Meteorological Service Singapore (MSS), 145.8mm of rain fell in the Kent Ridge area.

The wet weather today meant that the highest temperature recorded was just below 30°C at the East Coast Parkway and the coolest temperature was 22.5°C, recorded at Newton.

PUB advises public to avoid several locations due to risk of flash floods

Unfortunately, the downpour also caused several areas to be at risk of flash floods.

In a series of posts on X starting from 7.42am, national water agency PUB advised the public to avoid the following locations for one hour:

• the junction of Yuan Ching Road and Yung Kuang Road
• Jalan Boon Lay (Enterprise Road to International Road)
• the junction of Lorong Kismis and Toh Tuck Rise
• Eng Kong Place (Greenridge Crescent to Eng Kong Garden)
• Dunearn Road (Yarwood Avenue to Binjai Park)
• the junction of Sunset Drive and Sunset Way
• the junction of Sunset Drive and Sunset Terrace
• Bukit Timah Rd (Wilby Road to Blackmore Drive)
• Jalan Pokok Serunai (off Upper East Coast Road)
• the junction of Neo Pee Teck Lane and Pasir Panjang Road
• the junction of Bedok South Road and Bedok South Avenue 1 (towards Upper East Coast Road)
• the junction of Clementi Road and Ulu Pandan Road
• Lorong H Telok Kurau (cul-de-sac) and Joo Chiat Avenue (cul-de-sac)
• Jalan Seaview; the junction of Mountbatten Road and Tanjong Katong Road South
• the junction of Upper Changi Road and Bedok North Avenue 4
• the junction of Upper Changi Road and Bedok Avenue 4
• Sunset Way (Sunset Drive to Sunset Walk); Albert Winsemius Lane; Sunset Lane
• Jalan Nipah (off Bedok Road) (cul-de-sac)
• the junction of Bedok Garden and Bedok Road

It also warned of heavy rain over the northern, western and central areas of Singapore from 8.05am to 10.15am.

Bukit Timah affected by flooding on 14 Oct

Bukit Timah was one of the areas badly affected, with the Singapore Road Accident page on Facebook posting a video of cars and buses driving through deep water along Bukit Timah Road just outside the 1 King Albert Park condominumum.

In the other direction, Dunearn Road was also flooded, with Bukit Timah Canal filled to the brim with water.

Another video posted by the Singapore Stuff page on Facebook showed a flooded bus stop, purportedly also in the Bukit Timah area. A woman was seen wading in knee-deep water.

The deluge had also entered the bus, drenching the feet of passengers inside.

A third video, posted on TikTok on Monday and taken at a bus stop along Dunearn Road, showed that the water level had almost risen to the seats.

Those waiting there had to stand on the seats to avoid their legs getting wet.

Bukit Purmei staircase turns into waterfall

Another netizen posted a TikTok video of a staircase that had turned into a waterfall.

The water spread to the foot of a nearby HDB block, though the void deck seemingly remained dry.

The user told 8world News that the clip was taken at Block 107 Bukit Purmei Road at about 12.20pm.

Flooding seen at Tampines block on 14 Oct

Over in Tampines, a netizen shared a TikTok video of a neighbourhood coffee shop and walkway that had become inundated with water.

According to the caption, the video was taken at Block 201E Tampines Street 23, and it was the first time they had seen something like this.

From the clip, the water appeared to be at least ankle-deep.

Puddles of water in an MRT train

Even the MRT trains were not spared, as Singapore Incidents on Facebook posted a video of puddles of water in a carriage.

The train appeared to have been soaked by rainwater as it stopped at Tanah Merah station.

Another “waterfall” was seen through the open doors.

Bukit Timah flood cleared by 10am

By around 10am, the flooding around Bukit Timah Road had subsided, reported Shin Min Daily News.

Traffic was also moving smoothly.

However, flooding was still seen in parts of the sheltered walkways in the area.
