‘Gelora’ actor Raffi Khan dies at 61 after battling cancer
Raffi Khan, the veteran Singaporean actor known for his roles in numerous Mediacorp productions, passed away on Wednesday night (Oct 23) at the age of 61.
He had been battling Stage 4 rectal cancer since his diagnosis in December 2021.
Over his distinguished career, Mr Raffi became a familiar face in Singapore’s entertainment scene, particularly in his role as Encik Murad in the Malay soap opera ‘Gelora’, which cemented his legacy in local television.
On the evening of 23 Oct, Mediacorp posted its condolences on Instagram.
“At this time of loss, we at Mediacorp pray that his soul rests among the faithful,” the post said. “Raffi Khan’s work and legacy in the art world will always be remembered, and his loss is a great loss for the local art industry.”
Stopped cancer treatment last year
Mr Raffi’s niece, Ms Nur Zalina Ismail, shared with Malay-language news outlet BERITAmediacorp that the late actor had been admitted to Sengkang Community Hospital about three weeks prior to his passing, reports Channel News Asia (CNA).
His son, Mr Mohammad Shaqeer Khan, revealed that his late father had undergone chemotherapy after his diagnosis but ceased treatment in October 2023.
Mr Raffi was reportedly experiencing severe pain due to treatment and showed “no significant progress”.
“After the last treatment, [my father] gave up because he was too sick and tired,” Mr Shaqeer explained. “There was also not much progress from the treatment.”
Mr Raffi’s last words to his son were: “Take care of the family.”
The actor is survived by his wife, three children, and seven grandchildren. He is expected to be laid to rest on Thursday (24 Oct) morning.
Tributes from the entertainment industry have also been pouring in, with condolences shared by local television figures such as Chef Bob (Shahrizal Salleh), Shah Iskandar, Jatt Ali, and Norfasarie, according to CNA.
