Woman in Bedok allegedly prioritises phone over child’s safety while crossing road
A woman crossing Bedok Reservoir Road was reportedly seen holding her mobile phone rather than the hand of a young boy behind her.
The incident, which allegedly took place on 5 Nov at 7.27am, was captured in a video shared on the SG Road Vigilante Facebook page.
In the footage, the woman crosses the road with a young child, presumably on the way to school given the early hour.
She holds this child’s hand with her left hand while carrying a pink schoolbag on her right arm alongside her mobile phone.
Unclear if other child is related to woman
The clip also shows a second child walking unaccompanied behind her.
The Facebook post criticised the woman for holding her phone instead of the second child’s hand.
It noted that this crossing includes a discretionary left turn, meaning vehicles may pass even when the pedestrian light is green.
At one point, the woman appears to glance at the child she is holding hands with but does not look back at the other child.
However, it is unclear whether this boy is related to the woman or was under her care at the time.
Commenter questions if other child is hers
Netizens were quick to condemn the woman for what they saw as inadequate supervision of the children.
One commenter warned that she would regret her actions if an accident were to occur.
Another user joked that the woman seemed to have forgotten she had two children.
On the other hand, one commenter raised doubts about whether the second child was hers, suggesting the original poster may have jumped to conclusions.
