Boy sustains fractures after lift surges from 11th to 28th floor
A seven-year-old boy sustained multiple fractures after a lift in China suddenly shot up from the 11th floor to the 28th floor.
The incident occurred at around 7pm on 2 Nov in a residential complex in Xingyi City, Guizhou.
The boy was taking the lift alone when it stalled on the 11th floor. While trapped, the boy called his mother for help using his smartwatch.
“If my child hadn’t called me using his smartwatch, I don’t know when I would have realised he was stuck in the lift,” she said.

Surveillance footage showed the boy pressing the emergency call button after the lift stopped. Shortly after, the camera feed went black.
The mother told local media that the lift had lost power, causing the boy to be stranded in darkness.
Other residents reported hearing a loud noise and feeling vibrations when the lift rushed to the top.
Boy was rescued after more than 30 minutes
The boy was reportedly trapped inside the lift for more than half an hour before he was eventually rescued from the 28th floor.
He was found to have suffered fractures to his occipital bone, and cervical spine, as well as multiple fractures in his thoracic spine.

While authorities investigate the incident, the mother still worries for the safety of her child.
“I’ll never let my child take the lift alone again. I thought it would be okay as he just went downstairs to get a drink, but look what happened,” she remarked.
