Kindergarteners & teachers trapped in Malaysia cave during flash flood, rescued after 2 hours

40 kindergarteners and their teachers were trapped inside a popular cave in Malaysia when a flash flood broke out. Fortunately, they were all safely rescued by authorities after two hours.

According to China Press, the Dabong Fire Department received an emergency report alerting them of the incident at about 3.24pm on Thursday (21 Nov).

The group, which consisted of 21 children and 19 adults, were trapped inside Kampung Gua Ikan in Kelantan, Malaysia.

According to the Star, the authorities took six minutes to arrive at the scene. Seven personnel were deployed for the rescue operation.

The team then used a boat to ferry the group out of the cave, successfully rescuing all 40 by 5.13pm.

Urged public to avoid water activities and high-risk areas during monsoon season

The department took the opportunity to advise the public to remain vigilant about their safety while enjoying nature.

The public should avoid all water-based recreational and extreme sports activities during the monsoon season.

Additionally, it is highly encouraged to avoid high-risk areas during this period of the year.

A similar incident occurred in Thailand’s Tham Luang Cave 6 years ago when a youth football team got trapped inside a cave for 13 days.
