Family of motorcyclist killed by reversing lorry plans to pursue legal action

A motorcyclist in Kuala Lumpur was fatally crushed by a reversing lorry on Saturday (23 Nov) after the vehicle abruptly rolled onto a busy road.

The family of the victim, 32-year-old Mohd Hanis, has announced plans to pursue legal action against the lorry driver, The Star reported.

Footage of the incident shows the lorry swiftly reversing onto a busy road, narrowly avoiding a white car.

Mohd Hanis, upon spotting the lorry, attempted to switch lanes to avoid the collision but lost control of his bike and fell.

The lorry continued reversing rapidly and ran over the motorcyclist, killing him on the spot. The accident occurred at approximately 8.34am.

The lorry also collided with a car in the adjacent lane, injuring another driver who sustained a forehead wound.

Lorry reverses suddenly after brake oil refill

Assistant Commissioner Mohd Zamzuri Mohd Isa of the Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT) confirmed the motorcyclist’s death.

He explained that the lorry driver had been refilling the vehicle’s brake oil at a construction site before the vehicle suddenly reversed on its own, smashing through the site’s security gate.

“The lorry went into the main road and hit the 32-year-old rider,” Mr Zamzuri added. “The rider tried to evade the lorry but to no avail.”

He also shared that the impact of the collision “threw the rider underneath one of the lorry’s tyres”.

Victim’s family to take legal action against lorry driver

According to The Star, Mohd Hanis’ brother, Muhammed Hanif Sehat, shared the family’s intention to hold the lorry driver accountable.

“We, as a family, plan to take legal action against the lorry driver who caused my brother’s death in the accident,” he said, expressing hope that the driver would face appropriate punishment.
