Son reportedly claimed mother died after falling down
According to Zaobao, a man identifying himself as “Mr Lin” (name transliterated from Chinese) called a funeral home that morning.
The call was picked up by Mr Zheng Haichuan (name transliterated from Chinese), who told the paper that the man said his mother had passed away and asked for a doctor to come to his flat to certify her dead.
Mr Lin claimed his mother had died after falling and bleeding.
The funeral director advised him to call for an ambulance as he could not handle the case if the deceased is injured.
Police call funeral director later
While waiting for Mr Lin to call him back about funeral arrangements, Mr Zheng received a call from the police instead at about 2pm.
They asked him whether the man had sounded sad, and there was anything abnormal about his voice, but he replied that he sounded calm.
Later, he was unable to contact Mr Lin.
