Malaysian Redditor wonders if Singaporeans would opt to retire in Malaysia due to lower cost of living

A Malaysian Redditor has sparked discussion online after asking whether Singaporeans would consider retiring in Malaysia due to its lower cost of living.

Posting on r/askSingapore on 12 April, the Original Poster (OP) noted that many Malaysians see working in Singapore as a “cheat code” — earning higher salaries before retiring comfortably back home.

This led them to wonder if Singaporeans might do the reverse, given Malaysia’s proximity and cultural similarities.

“S’poreans, would you settle down in Malaysia?” the OP asked.

The OP later edited their post with a lighthearted remark, joking that the responses made them want to “find a S’porean girlfriend so it’s a win-win”.

Some netizens express concern

The question drew a wide range of responses, with opinions divided.

Some netizens cited safety as their biggest concern, saying it would deter them from retiring in Malaysia.
