Singapore content creator intrigued by new contactless pedestrian crossing button
A Singapore content creator was surprised after discovering a new contactless pedestrian crossing button that no longer requires physical contact.
TikToker discovers contactless pedestrian crossing button
In a TikTok post uploaded on 26 April, @legocrazee shared a traffic light system that replaced the usual push button with a sensor-based one.
Instead of pressing the button, pedestrians can simply wave their hand in front of it to activate the “green man”.
“I was about to cross the road when I saw this thing,” the Original Poster (OP) said.
“Apparently, it’s the new crosswalk buttons. You don’t even need to press it anymore… You just wave in front of it.”

The OP also demonstrated how the system works, noting that it could be useful when one’s hands are full.
While they found the feature convenient, they added that they were unsure why the change was necessary.

“There was nothing wrong with the old ones, but I don’t know,” they said before adding, “Interesting.”
The OP later came across another traffic light with the same feature, suggesting the system may be rolled out more widely across Singapore.

Netizens reacting to the clip appeared divided. Some welcomed the change, praising its convenience, while others missed “spamming” the old button.

One TikTok user welcomed the new contactless button, pointing out that traditional buttons can get dirty when people press them using their feet or umbrellas.

Others highlighted that having fewer moving parts could make the system more durable.

However, some commenters jokingly said they would miss “spamming” the button to try to make the light change faster.

830 microwave sensors installed so far
In response to MS News‘ queries, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) said they have installed 830 microwave sensors as part of the programme to replace 11,500 pedestrian push buttons across Singapore.
“We expect to complete the full replacement by second half of 2028,” the LTA spokesperson said.
MS News has reached out to the OP for more information.
