A trip to the cinema took an unexpectedly eerie turn for one moviegoer who stumbled into the “real life backrooms” after watching the very movie at Plaza Singapura.
Moviegoer stumbles onto “real life backrooms”
TikTok user @somaarihiku shared a 58-second video on 1 Aug, showing a maze-like network of beige corridors after leaving the cinema.
The clip was captioned: “Real life backrooms? Plaza Sing, after leaving the movie theatres.”
The video began with the Original Poster (OP) walking through a series of plain, almost identical corridors with cream-coloured walls, fluorescent lighting and tiled floors.

As the OP moved through multiple turns and long, empty hallways, the surroundings appeared increasingly repetitive, giving the impression of an endless maze.

At several points, directional signs and emergency exit markers were visible, while service doors lined the corridor.
The corridors were otherwise deserted, adding to the unsettling atmosphere.

The video quickly resonated with netizens familiar with the “Backrooms”, an internet horror concept made into a horror movie recently.
A netizen was also scared by the video, to which the OP agreed, as it occurred right after they watched the movie “Backrooms”.

According to Wikipedia, the Backrooms is a fictional setting that originated from a 2019 post on the imageboard platform 4chan.
It is commonly depicted as a vast, seemingly endless extradimensional maze of empty rooms that can be entered by accidentally slipping out of reality.
The concept has become one of the most recognisable examples of the liminal space aesthetic and the creepypasta horror genre.
It was recently made into an American science fiction psychological horror film directed and co-scored by Kane Parsons, the YouTuber behind the web series.
