Middle-aged man faces charge for allegedly misappropriating money from mosque
A 42-year-old man is set to be charged in court for allegedly misappropriating money from a mosque, the Singapore Police Force (SPF) said in a statement on Tuesday (11 Aug).
The man was an employee of the mosque and allegedly misappropriated money between February and May.
42-year-old misappropriated more than S$14,000 entrusted to him
SPF received a report on 16 May alleging that the man had taken money from the mosque’s donation boxes.
According to preliminary investigations, he was believed to have embezzled more than S$14,000 entrusted to him in the course of his employment.
He faces criminal breach of trust charge
The man will be charged in court on 12 Aug with criminal breach of trust as an employee under Section 408 of the Penal Code 1871.
The offence carries an imprisonment term of up to 15 years and a fine.
The police said they take a serious view of any person who engages in fraudulent or dishonest conduct.
SPF added: “Offenders will be dealt with severely in accordance with the law.”
