The actor, best known for his role in Ah Boys to Men, said the uncle is back at work at his noodle stall and refuses to see a doctor.
While many encouraged Mr Yap’s support for the uncle, some questioned why the actor is joining in the issue.
Netizen accuses actor of using issue for publicity
In his Facebook post on 17 Aug, Mr Yap highlighted a comment from a netizen, who scrutinised why he was publicly supporting the uncle.
The critic said the actor was “not there” for the elderly man before the incident, but was suddenly there to “show concern and gather publicity” after.
“Smart actor fighting for limelight immediately before others,” the netizen accused.

Actor says he has been uncle’s patron for over 20 years
Mr Yap said that he had expected some naysayers to say he was only posting about the uncle “for clout and attention”.
However, he clarified that he has been a patron of the uncle’s wanton mee stall for over 20 years.

“I started eating at the stall when my mum brought me there after my primary school tuition/CCA,” he shared.
“Each time I visit his stall to eat his noodles, his family, him and I would always have a friendly chat, and they would always ask about my work and family and vice versa,” he said, adding that the uncle practically saw him grow up.
After learning about the incident, Mr Yap said he intentionally visited the uncle the next afternoon to check on him.
He also explained that he only made a post about it to spread awareness about the situation.

The actor also said the specific netizen made it sound like he makes it a point to reach out and post every time an elderly person gets pushed.
“Get a life la. I am not as free as you think,” he wrote.
