AirAsia flight gets diverted in Philippines due to inclement weather
Two passengers were given medical attention after an AirAsia flight from Da Nang to Manila was diverted to Clark International Airport on Monday (17 Aug).
Flight Z2 823, which was supposed to land at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA), was temporarily diverted due to inclement weather in Manila.
On 17 Aug, 201.7mm of rain was recorded in Metro Manila in six hours, from 8am to 2pm, ABS-CBN reported.
Passengers allegedly stranded for several hours
According to GMA News, the passengers were stranded at the Clark airport for several hours after the plane was unable to land at NAIA due to bad weather.
A passenger who spoke with the media outlet said the flight arrived in Manila at about 8.55am, but it was still unable to land at around 12.30pm.
After the flight was diverted to Clark, the source claimed they stayed inside the plane, which did not have air conditioning, for a few hours.
In the video, several passengers were seen fanning themselves inside the aircraft.

The source also alleged that they witnessed someone have a medical emergency.
The passengers were allowed to disembark from the plane at 4.30pm.
However, they were allegedly not permitted to clear immigration at Clark Airport.

A netizen on Threads, who claims to be a passenger, said they boarded the plane again at 11.10pm and finally arrived in Manila at 12.20am on 18 Aug.
Two passengers receive medical attention
AirAsia Philippines confirmed that the flight from Da Nang to Manila had been “temporarily diverted” to Clark due to inclement weather in Manila.
This decision was made to ensure passengers’ and crew members’ safety.
Upon arrival in Clark, guests were assisted and accommodated at the boarding gate provided by airport authorities.
“Two guests who required medical attention were attended to by the airport medical team,” they revealed.

AirAsia Philippines added that all other guests requiring assistance were provided with the necessary support by their ground crew.
Operational processes and coordination must be completed to resume flight
Additionally, the airline said that before the flight can continue to Manila, “necessary operational processes and coordination” must be completed.
“AirAsia Philippines is coordinating with relevant authorities on the necessary flight clearances, permits, and gate arrangements,” they explained.
“Flight arrangements and the estimated departure time have been communicated to affected guests and remain subject to operational and weather conditions.”
Meanwhile, ground staff provided snacks and prepared hot meals for passengers.
