Humanoid robot draws crowds on Orchard Road during TikTok Shop’s 9.9 sale campaign
Orchard Road is rarely short on crowds, but shoppers had an unusual reason to stop and stare on 30 Aug.
A humanoid robot was seen walking, dancing, and performing martial arts along the shopping belt, drawing curious onlookers as it moved through a TikTok Shop 9.9 sale activation.

Dubbed Lobang Bot, the robot was developed by Chinese robotics company Unitree Robotics and appeared as the sidekick to TikTok’s superhero character, Promo Bro.
The pair form part of TikTok Shop’s 9.9 campaign, which sees Promo Bro taking on a group of characters known as the “Price Monsters”, meant to represent high prices.

Shoppers could also take part in a series of activities built around the campaign, while Lobang Bot’s dance moves and martial arts routines became one of the main draws on the ground.
Robot walks, dances, and performs martial arts
Lobang Bot is a humanoid robot by Unitree Robotics, a China-based company that develops quadrupedal and humanoid robots.

Wearing a bright pink cape, the robot walked around the activation area before breaking into dance moves and martial arts routines.

Videos from the event showed shoppers stopping to watch, with some cheering as the robot performed.

Unitree robot recently competed in Beijing
Unitree’s humanoid robots also recently appeared at the World Humanoid Robot Games in Beijing.
During a 100m preliminary heat, a Unitree robot completed the race in 12.41 seconds.
Unitree also unveiled another humanoid prototype in August, nicknamed “Superman”, which the company claims reached a top speed of 12.66 metres per second.
That is slightly faster than Usain Bolt’s estimated peak speed of about 12.42 metres per second during his world-record 100m run.
The company also says the prototype can jump up to two metres high and that there is still room to improve its performance.
