SPF contingent in Nepal grows to 35 members, working with locals to help with disaster relief
After deployment last Tuesday (1 Sept), a 35-member Singapore Police Force (SPF) contingent has arrived in Nepal to aid disaster relief efforts.
Singapore has also recently provided a humanitarian assistance package worth S$560,000.
SPF contingent working with Nepal Police to support disaster relief
Previously, on 1 and 2 Sept, 17 SPF officers and two Health Sciences Authority (HSA) officers departed for Nepal following a request from Nepali authorities.

As of 6 Sept, SPF announced that the contingent in Nepal has increased to 35 members.
The officers began work on the ground to support the Nepali authorities’ disaster relief efforts following the flash floods last month.
The contingent is contributing its expertise in Disaster Victim Identification (DVI) and aerial surveillance in support of the ongoing relief efforts.
They met the Nepal Police and the Nepal National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority to further understand the situation on the ground.

Additionally, the group met up with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ (MFA) Crisis Response Team, which has been in Nepal since 27 Aug to provide consular assistance to affected Singaporeans.
Singapore hands S$560,000 in emergency supplies to Nepal
On 4 Sept, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Gan Siow Huang officially handed over a humanitarian assistance package worth S$560,000 to Nepal.

The package comprises emergency supplies such as DNA test kits, personal protective equipment (PPE), and medical supplies.
“This is on top of the Singapore Government’s earlier contribution of US$100,000 (S$127,000) to the Singapore Red Cross’ public fundraising efforts,” Ms Gan stated.

At the time of writing, nine Singaporeans remain among the over 5,000 missing following the devastating floods on 26 Aug.
