British tourist allegedly steals motorcycle while drunk in Pattaya

A 38-year-old British tourist was arrested in Pattaya after allegedly riding off on a motorcycle left unattended with the key in the ignition.

When police later found him, the man reportedly admitted that he was the person seen taking the motorcycle on CCTV, but claimed he was too intoxicated to remember where he had left it.

Motorcycle owner accidentally left key in ignition

The incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday (10 Oct) outside an entertainment venue along Soi Buakhao in South Pattaya.

At about 2.36am, a 40-year-old man, Raksaphon, filed a report with the Pattaya City Police Station after discovering that his blue Yamaha Grand Filano motorcycle was missing.

He told the police that he had parked his motorcycle outside the venue before heading inside.

However, he had accidentally left the key in the ignition of the motorcycle.

When he returned a short while later, he realised that his motorcycle was gone.

CCTV showed foreigner riding away on motorcycle

Checking CCTV footage from the venue, he saw a foreign man getting onto the motorcycle and riding away.

He then asked friends to help search for the vehicle before reporting the incident to the police and submitting the footage as evidence.

Shortly afterwards, police and members of the public located a 38-year-old British tourist at an accommodation along Pattaya Second Road.

His appearance allegedly matched the man seen in the CCTV footage.

Tourist couldn’t remember location of motorcycle

The tourist admitted he was the person seen riding away on the motorcycle.

However, because he had been heavily intoxicated, he told officers he could not remember where he had left the vehicle.
