4 occupants self-evacuate flat before SCDF arrives
In response to queries from MS News, the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said it was alerted to the fire at about 4.45pm on 18 Oct.
It involved the contents of a kitchen and service yard in a unit on the 13th floor of Block 714 Tampines Street 71.
Four occupants of the affected unit self-evacuated before SCDF arrived.
Firefighters extinguished the blaze using a water jet, with no injuries reported.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Residents urged to observe fire safety precautions
SCDF noted that the top three causes of fires in residential premises are unattended cooking, electrical fires and unattended lighted materials.
Thus, it strongly advised residents not to leave their cooking unattended and to keep stove-tops, cooker hoods and ovens clean and grease-free.
Residents should also not overload power sockets, charge devices overnight unattended, or leave lighted materials such as incense sticks or cigarettes unattended. They should instead be fully extinguished before being thrown away.
