Traffic due to Bahrain GP in Malaysia leaves fans disgruntled

The long-awaited return of Formula One to Malaysia should have made fans elated, but instead, poor traffic management has spoiled the day for some.

According to the Malay Mail, many fans were stuck in traffic for hours on end last Friday (2 Oct) on the first day of the Bahrain Grand Prix.

Fortunately, reports from 3 Oct indicate that management has greatly improved the traffic situation since the complaints flooded in.

Not just the drivers stuck in traffic

Formula One drivers frequently complain about traffic on track, but last Friday, it was the fans who came out in droves online after struggling to get home that night.

Many spent hours waiting as traffic came to a complete halt due to the chaos. The congestion started from Sepang International Circuit to Kuala Lumpur International Airport Terminal 2.

One influencer who came to catch the practice sessions said he left Sepang at 5.45pm and only managed to board a bus to exit at 9pm.

There were even claims that people began fighting to get spots on buses.

Beyond transportation, massive queues also formed for water. Despite the hot weather, there were reports that many fans did not have access to water because many water stations were not operational.

Some fans allegedly fainted.

Fans called for improvements to be made, fearing that it would only get worse on Saturday and Sunday when the real racing sessions began.

Situation reportedly improved on day two

According to The Malaysian Reserve, fans appreciated the improvements made by management on day two of the Grand Prix.

Many praised the organisation for the queues and how much quicker they were.

“The line is super fast,” one Threads user said. They also added that staff were around to guide them from the KLIA Transit train station to the shuttle point and that it only took around ten minutes for the queue.

Multiple comments also praised the dedicated traffic lanes for shuttles.
