Other open vegetation fires in the past month
The fire comes as persistent dry weather due to the El Nino phenomenon exacerbates smoke haze coming from hotspots in Sumatra and Kalimantan.
Since this year’s haze season started, there have been at least four open vegetation fires, including the latest incident.
On 3 Sept, an open field in Bukit Panjang caught fire and the day after that, a fire broke out at a grass patch near a heavy vehicle carpark in Seletar.
A few days later, on 7 Sept, a large area of the hillside just behind the Gali Batu Depot caught fire.
No injuries were reported in these previous incidents, either.
