Rat Tries To Steal BreadTalk Bun In Philippines; Hilariously Caught In The Act On Camera

BreadTalk Rat Goes Viral In Philippines, Sparks Hygiene Concerns

Many Singaporeans are familiar with the lovely aroma of piping hot buns straight from the oven, when we stroll past BreadTalk outlets.

For a furry citizen in the Philippines, the alluring scent proved too irresistible to ignore. And this got him into a squeak-load of trouble on Saturday (16 Feb).

A BreadTalk branch in San Fernando, Pampanga came under fire after a customer spotted a rat casually treading upon a row of bread buns on a shelf.

Here’s the viral video in full. We rat out the culprit after the jump.

Ratted out by the glass display

The video begins with a shocked gasp, as a passing customer realises that there’s a stowaway on the rack of buns through a glass display.

He then attempts to knock on the glass to get the rodent’s attention — a sound which appears to terrify the timid creature.

The rat ducks its head under the shelf, in an attempt to hide from its unknown ‘assailant’. Unfortunately for the poor rodent, its well-endowed body was in still plain sight — as plain as the buns it was standing on.

The video proceeds to zoom in on the rat’s guilty expression, before the camera pans away to reveal that the incident had occurred at a BreadTalk outlet.

Netizen rightfully concerned

The writer of the original post expressed disappointment in BreadTalk Philippines, despite being a loyal customer.

He wrote an impassioned post requesting for the “official stand” of the company, before seeking clarifications on “concrete steps” taken to prevent similar rat sightings in the future.

At time of writing, BreadTalk Philippines hasn’t made an official statement regarding the matter on Facebook. However, it is possible that they have resolved the matter behind closed doors.

A tail as old as time

The incident has undoubtedly raised legitimate questions regarding BreadTalk Philippines’ stance on preventing unwelcome rat food critics.

As for would-be food pilferers in Singapore, we leave them with one sound piece of advice from this wise rodent, to conclude this hilarious tale.

Beware the glass displays, young rodents. Big brother is always watching.
