Cat in US earns Guinness World Record for most toes with 29
While cat toe beans are a boon for the soul, could it be possible to have too much of a good thing? The Guinness World Records recently acknowledged one feline in the United States for having the most toes with 29.
When it was born, the Maine Coon’s parents immediately realised the number of toes was remarkable.

The Wisconsin-based cat breeders named it Erebus Anomaly after the colour of its coat.
In an interview with ABC News, the couple revealed that Erebus’s father also has quite a few toes. Six on each paw. That adds up to 24, while cats normally have 18.
His owners emphasised that the illness was unrelated to Erebus’s toes. The kitten was hospitalised after severe pneumonia, and even had to spend time in an oxygen machine. The illness, his owners emphasised, is entirely unrelated to his toes.
Fortunately, Erebus is now a healthy cat who enjoys time napping in the sun.

Beat out a couple of cats
According to the Guinness site, Erebus’s 29 beats the previously held record of 28 toes, which has stood since 2002.
Two cats shared the spot. The first is Jake the Polydactyl Cat from Canada, who set the record back in 2002. The second is Toby, a rescue from Michigan, who tied the record, according to a 2026 report.
The genetic trait that causes this condition is called polydactyly, and it is especially common for Maine Coons.
