S’pore Prepares To Turn Chalets Into Quarantine Centres To Isolate Wuhan Coronavirus Patients

Singapore Chalets Will Act As Wuhan Coronavirus Quarantine Centre

As of Saturday (25 Jan), the deadly Wuhan coronavirus has spread to 30 provinces in China, with over 1,300 cases and 41 deaths.

These numbers are based on the latest update by Channel NewsAsia (CNA) today (25 Jan).

Taking precautionary measures for a possible widespread outbreak in Singapore, the Ministry of Health (MOH) has prepared quarantine facilities to help curb the spread of the virus.

Here’s a look at how Singapore plans to implement safety measures.

Wuhan coronavirus patients will be under quarantine in chalets

According to The Straits Times (ST), the Singapore government is preparing quarantine facilities to combat the spread of the Wuhan virus.

These include,

  • Heritage Chalet
  • SAF Changi Chalet
  • HomeTeamNS Sembawang Chalets.

People who have come into contact with an infectious agent but have yet to fall ill will be put in isolation within these facilities.

Housing them in one of the quarantine facilities will hopefully stop the potential spread of the virus.

On Thursday (23 Jan), ST reporters reportedly saw a “flurry of activities” at the Treehouse Villas @ Changi along Sealand Road, mainly of trucks and cars delivering drinks like Milo and mineral water.

Virus present in 14 nations so far

As of Friday (24 Jan) Singapore has seen 44 suspected cases of the Wuhan coronavirus.

16 people will be under quarantine for 14 days, so healthcare officials can monitor them for symptoms.

Across the globe, 14 nations have confirmed the presence of the deadly virus, most recently in Australia and Malaysia.

Keep calm but stay alert

With such a massive outbreak, Singaporeans should take more cautious steps to protect themselves against the virus by practising good hygiene and wearing surgical masks.

While there’s no need to panic yet, Singaporeans should remain vigilant to avoid the possibility of infection.
