Man In Changi Road Rage Incident Disputes Claims That He ‘Stole’ A Dog

Update (7 Aug): An MS News reader has informed us that Bryan, the man involved in the dispute, has shared his side of the story. Here’s his statement in full.

In short, he clarifies that he had taken the Chow Chow in after alleged neglect had caused the dog to be “filthy” and “sick” on certain occasions.

He also requests that families do not get a dog, if they aren’t ready for the commitment involved.

Remember the Changi Road Rage incident that occurred last week?

Now, a man depicted in the viral video is now embroiled in a dispute involving a doggo named “Bearbear”, who is a Chow Chow.

The family of Mr Jeron Toh posted a detailed account on Facebook on Saturday (3 Aug) that has garnered over 1,200 shares at the time of writing.

Man in Changi Road feud embroiled in dog dispute with family

Mr Toh shares that a man he saw in the viral video of the accident, is allegedly part of a “scam” involving alleged “dog theft”.

Mr Toh’s family shares that their Chow Chow named “Bearbear” experienced the same thing, where this man allegedly never returned their pet after the play date.

He had apparently promised the Toh family, to help them look for a “fosterer for the dog”.

After a short meet-up between both parties, the man suggested that he bring the Chow Chow home.

The family claims that he then created multiple excuses to prolong its stay at his home.

Dog was sent to fosterer, passed away a year later

Shortly after this, the family says that they were denied any “form of visiting”, and go as far as to allege that he even “microchipped it to claim ownership” without their consent.

The Toh family claims that the dog was finally sent to a fosterer without their knowledge and Bearbear the Chow Chow sadly passed away a year later.

Although the family has filed a police report regarding the case, the authorities won’t be able to intervene as the microchip certifies that this man is the original owner by law.

Dog could have been used to ‘jio‘ girls

Attached to the Facebook post were also screenshots of conversations revealing how the man had used the Chow Chow to ‘jio‘ (ask in Hokkien) girls out.

The first conversation started when someone alleged that he “keep using dog to ask me out”.

Another conversation also added that he would post Insta-stories with the Chow Chow featuring another corgi in it.

In one of the conversations, it was also said that the man involved had “painted a horrible picture” of the owners by saying they were “unreasonable” and caused the “fall out” in the first place.

From the Toh family’s perspective, they claim that they were unable to meet their dog as he would tell them that the fosterer did not like visitors.

Finally, in Mr Toh’s own words, he bid a fond farewell to his dog,

Took me a lot of courage to write this by not feeling emotional. RIP my best dog, my pal, my best friend.

Recap on Changi Road Rage Incident

As a quick recap, the Changi Road Rage dispute broke out on Wednesday (31 Jul) and involved a man and women who were seen shoving and shouting vulgarities at each other.

The incident took place along Changi South Avenue 2, and according to Yahoo News, no one apart from the drivers involved know why or how the confrontation started.

Here’s the video of the incident, reuploaded by Mr Toh’s family, from which they recognised the man involved in the dog dispute with them.

Best to microchip your doggos

Do note that that the story of Bearbear the Chow Chow, though tragic, still remains a mostly one-sided account on the part of the Toh family. Bryan, the man involved has counter-claimed that the Chow Chow was neglected and not taken care of, resulting in his decision to help the dog — you can read his post in full here.

The lesson here is to make sure that we remain vigilant and always microchip our animals at the earliest possible time that is recommended by vets, to make sure that if legal disputes occur over the ownership, we’ll be covered as furparents.

We sincerely hope that the dispute is resolved soon, so Bearbear may rest in peace across the rainbow bridge.
