Four Men Allegedly Involved In Fight Along North Canal Road On 20 Jan

After some drinks on Friday (20 Jan) evening, four men reportedly got into a scuffle in Chinatown.

Alarmed by the loud shouts, members of the public soon notified the police.

When officers arrived at the scene, one of the men was uncooperative and tried to lunge at an officer, reported Shin Min Daily News.

The 23-year-old was later arrested for using criminal force to deter a public servant from discharging his duty. Police investigations are ongoing.

Fight reportedly breaks out between drunk men in Chinatown area

According to Shin Min Daily News, four Caucasian men were believed to be drunk when they got into a loud dispute at about 8.30pm.

The commotion led to the public notifying the police about the incident. Police officers arrived soon after and swiftly began their investigations.

However, one man refused to cooperate and tried to get physical with an officer.

Several officers later pinned him down.

A nine-second video of the arrest was later shared on the Singapore Incidents Facebook group.

In the video, a police vehicle was parked along South Bridge Road. Two men knelt on the ground outside while officers apprehended another man.

Employee says area is typically safe

The incident reportedly occurred outside Kim Poh Hong Goldsmith, located near several bars in the area.

Before the scuffle, the four men were said to have patronised one of the bars.

Speaking to Shin Min Daily News, a convenience store employee shared that he has worked there for about half a year and never met with any trouble.

He said even when he worked the night shift, he had not witnessed any fights, adding that the area was safe.

The police confirmed they were informed about a fight along North Canal Road on 20 Jan.

When they arrived and began investigations, a 23-year-old man lunged at an officer.

He was later arrested for using criminal force to deter a public servant from discharging his duty.

Investigations are ongoing.
