8 Of 12 New Covid-19 Cases In Singapore Caught Disease Overseas, Including 3 RSAF Servicemen
For last few days, Singapore has seen a double-digit spike in Covid-19 cases almost everyday. Now, there’s 12 new Covid-19 cases reported on Wednesday (11 Mar).

Some of the interesting things to note about today’s cases:
- 8 are imported, which means they caught the disease overseas
- 3 of the imported cases are servicemen from Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF)
- 1 of today’s cases is linked to Singapore’s biggest cluster SAFRA Jurong
Thankfully, 3 more patients have been discharged. Out of the 178 cases, we have 96 recoveries.
Cases 167 & 178 are Filipino nationals & family members
In the Ministry of Health’s press release, the 12 new cases are identified as Cases 167, 168, 169, 170, 171, 172, 173, 174, 175, 176, 177, and 178.
Of these patients, Cases 167 and 178 were announced together as they are linked.
Case 167: A 35-year-old female Filipino national who is a Singapore Work Pass holder, and is a family member of Case 178. She was in the Philippines from 11-17 Feb.
She reported onset of symptoms on 8 Mar and had sought treatment at Ng Teng Fong General Hospital (NTFGH) on 9 Mar. She tested positive the next day, and is now warded in the same hospital.
The Jurong Street 21 resident works as a nurse in NTFGH and had gone to work before being admitted.
Case 178: An imported case involving a 37-year-old male Filipino national who is a Singapore Work Pass holder. He was in the Philippines from 11-19 Feb, and again from 23 Feb-2 Mar to visit a relative with pneumonia who has since passed away.
He tested positive for Covid-19 on 11 Mar morning, and is currently warded at NTFGH. He is a family member of Case 167.
Cases 169, 173, 175 are RSAF servicemen who were in France
3 of the 8 who caught Covid-19 overseas are RSAF servicemen who were on official duty in France before being diagnosed.

Case 169: A 40-year-old male Singaporean who was in France from 15 Feb-7 Mar. He is currently warded at Khoo Teck Puat Hospital (KTPH), and is one of the imported cases who were in France on official duty.
He reported onset of symptoms on 9 Mar and presented at the emergency department of KTPH on 10 Mar. He tested positive the same afternoon.
Before being admitted, he had visited the Health Promotion Board for an unrelated matter. The Yishun Street 81 resident is an RSAF serviceman but had not gone to work since he returned to Singapore.
Case 173: A 31-year-old male Singaporean who had been in France from 15 Feb-7 Mar. Just like Case 171, he tested positive on 11 Mar morning, and is also warded at NCID.
He had not gone to work since he returned to Singapore from his official duty in France.
Case 175: An imported case of a 44-year-old male Singaporean who had
been in France from 15 Feb-7 Mar. He tested positive on 11 March morning, and is currently warded at NCID.
He is one of the imported cases who had been in France on official duty, and hasn’t been to work since returning to Singapore.
2 more cases had been to France
Meanwhile, here are other cases who are not RSAF servicemen, but had also been to France around the same period.
Case 171: A 27-year-old male Singaporean who had been in France from 25 Feb-1 Mar, and Spain from 1-6 Mar. He tested positive on 11 Mar morning and is currently warded at the National Centre for Infectious Diseases (NCID).
Case 177: An imported case of a 26-year-old male Singaporean who had been in the United States from 14-24 Feb, the United Kingdom from 28 Feb-1 Mar, and France from 2-7 Mar.
He tested positive on 11 Mar morning as well, and is currently warded at NCID.
Remaining 3 imported cases travelled overseas to Asian countries & UK
Here are the rest of the imported cases confirmed today.
Case 170: A 56-year-old female Indonesian national who had arrived in Singapore on 9 Mar. She is currently warded at Singapore General Hospital (SGH), and is a family member of Case 152 who was announced on 9 Mar.
She reported onset of symptoms on 6 Mar while in Indonesia, and presented at SGH on 9 Mar after arrival in Singapore. She tested positive the next day.
Case 172: A 42-year-old female Filipino national who is a Singapore Work Pass Holder, and had been in the Philippines from 27 Feb-2 Mar. She tested positive on 11 Mar morning, and is currently warded at NCID.
Case 176: A 37-year-old female British national who had been in Japan from 24 Feb-4 Mar, and the UK from 4-8 Mar. She tested positive on 11 Mar and is now warded at NCID.
Case 168 & 174 had not travelled to affected countries recently
Case 168: A 47-year-old male Singaporean who has no recent travel history to affected countries and regions. He is currently warded at Sengkang General Hospital (SKH).
He reported onset of symptoms on 1 Mar and had sought treatment at 2 general practitioner (GP) clinics on 2, 5 and 8 Mar. He was referred to the emergency department of SKH on 8 Mar, and tested positive 2 days after.
Case 174: A 67-year-old female Singaporean who has no recent travel history to affected countries and regions. She tested positive for Covid-19 on 11 Mar morning, and is currently warded at NCID.
She is linked to the cluster involving the private dinner function at SAFRA Jurong.
Unfortunate to see more imported cases today
We’ve known that we would see drastic spikes in Covid-19 cases once a new cluster emerged. But what was shocking about today’s cases is that most of them were imported. Only 1 was linked to SAFRA Jurong.
As more Singaporeans and residents return from overseas in the past month, we hope that this is the last spike in imported cases in days to come.
