Both Confirmed Covid-19 Patients Who Died Of Unrelated Causes Tested Positive On 11 May
On Tuesday (12 May), the Ministry of Health (MOH) confirmed 884 new cases of Covid-19, 887 of them involve Work Permit holders living in dormitories. This brings out national tally to 24,671.
In their update, MOH also reported 2 additional cases of Covid-19 patients who passed away due to unrelated causes.
2 confirmed Covid-19 patients pass away due to stroke and blood clot
The 2 new patients that fall under this category include a 50-year-old Thai national and a 31-year-old Indian national. Both tested positive for Covid-19 on Monday (11 May).
The former passed away on Tuesday (12 May) at Ng Teng Feng General Hospital after having difficulties breathing on 10 May.
His reported cause of death was cerebral haemorrhage.
The latter passed away on Sunday (10 May) after complaining of chest pain in his dormitory.
His cause of death was apparently due to a blood clot.
10 confirmed Covid-19 patients died due to unrelated causes
There are now Coivd-19 patients to date who passed away due to unrelated causes.
Here’s a breakdown of the other 8 cases and their reported causes of death:
- 3 Indian Nationals – 32-year-old man (Coronary Artery Disease), 46-year-old man (Injuries from fall from height), 53-year-old man (Coronary Thrombosis)
- 2 Malaysians – 40-year-old man (Heart Attack), 80-year-old man (Unstated)
- 2 Bangladeshi National – 47-year-old man (Coronary Artery Disease), 44-year-old man (Heart Attack)
- 1 Singaporean – 68-year-old man (Unstated)
99.2% of today’s cases are workers living in dormitories
The majority of today’s cases continue to involve Workers staying in dormitories.
To be exact, 877 – representing 99.2% of today’s cases – fall under this category.
MOH has established links to 98% of these cases. Only 2% of the 877, or around 18 patients, are currently pending contact tracing.
MOH said in their report that the number of Work Permit holders who test positive is rising as the authorities are also testing those who are “well and asymptomatic.
They have also expanded the “intensive testing” to factory-converted dormitories as well.
3 Singaporeans and PRs are part of today’s cases
4 community cases were also part of today’s cases.
- 3 Singaporeans/Permanent Residents (PR)
- 1 Work Pass holder.

7 new cluster discovered
MOH has also discovered 7 new clusters. These are:
- 45 Kian Teck Drive
- 3 Loyang Way 6
- 36 Senoko Road
- 7 Senoko South Road
- 3 Sungei Kadut Avenue
- 46 Tech Park Crescent
- 5 Woodlands Industrial Park E1
626 more patients have been discharged
In more positive news, 626 more patients have fully recovered and have been discharged.
This brings the total number of recovered cases to 3,851.
1,132 patients are still in hospital of which 20 are receiving care in the intensive care unit (ICU).
