Elderly Lady Injured After Whampoa Food Centre Mishap

As people grow older, their bodies weaken and falling down becomes a huge risk.

An elderly lady who fell at Whampoa Food Centre testified to this after tripping over a little girl’s leg and required 7 stitches for her injury.

The little girl was apparently jumping around and playing when she suddenly stretched out her leg, causing Mdm Yang to trip.

Elderly lady hit her eyebrow onto the trolley handle

According to Lianhe Zaobao, the incident happened on 28 Sep, when 79-year-old Mdm Yang Lai Chun and her husband were shopping for groceries.

They had stopped at a fish stall, where a family with a 6-year-old girl was also standing. The child was jumping around when she unknowingly stuck her leg out in Mdm Yang’s way.

As the old lady could not react in time, she lost her balance and struck her right eyebrow on the trolley handle, causing her to bleed.

A fishmonger called for an ambulance, and paramedics rushed Mdm Yang to the hospital.

There, she received 7 stitches for injuries to the area around her eyebrows and nose.

Fast forward to 6 Oct, a reporter from Lianhe Zaobao visited Mdm Yang at the food centre, and here’s what she shared.

The little girl did not apologise to her

Mdm Yang told Lianhe Zaobao that when the incident happened, her husband rushed to get a chair for her to rest on while he applied pressure onto her wound with a paper towel.

She added that neither the girl nor her family apologised, but the child received a scolding from her parents on the spot.

However, since everything escalated too quickly, she could not remember what the family looked like.

Police are investigating the case

Mdm Yang’s granddaughter had shared the incident on Facebook on 28 Sep, appealing for eye-witnesses.

She updated that the police were looking into the case on Saturday (5 Oct).

While waiting for the police to get to the bottom of this, we hope that Mdm Yang has a speedy recovery.
