Suspected Bomb Threat At Environment Building On 23 Aug

On Wednesday (23 Aug), staff at the Environment Building on Scotts Road allegedly received a bomb threat.

Authorities arrived at the scene and evacuated staff from the building soon after.

While the Ministry of Sustainability and the Environment (MSE) has yet to issue an official statement, Minister Grace Fu put up a Facebook post assuring the public that no threat items were found.

Suspected bomb threat at Environment Building at 9.30am

8world News reports that the incident occurred at around 9.30am.

Police officers arrived at the Environment Building on Scotts Road to look into the matter and evacuated all staff from the building.

Those who reached the scene later were not allowed to enter.

Employees inside the building received an email informing them to leave the office immediately.

In footage of the aftermath that 8world News posted to Facebook, many MSE workers, including those from Singapore’s National Water Agency (PUB) and National Environment Agency (NEA), can be seen gathering in the area.

The building had also put up a notice, stating that they were on lockdown due to an emergency situation.

Staff says there were bomb threat rumours, but no official confirmation yet

The staff member told 8world News that none of them knew the reason behind the sudden evacuation. Despite this, they left the building in an orderly manner.

In addition, the employee said rumours were circulating that there was a bomb threat.

However, building management did not confirm the reason for the evacuation to be as such, and neither did they make any announcement.

Minister for Sustainability and the Environment Grace Fu addressed the situation via a post on Facebook.

She said she received news of the incident while attending ASEAN meetings in Vientiane, Laos.

“Police had worked with security officers on premises for preliminary checks, and no threat items were found,” she said.

Ms Fu added that she would closely monitor the developments from Laos and was in constant contact with her colleagues.

“I would like to assure all staff and stakeholders at the Environment Building that their safety is our priority,” she added.
