Fire in Lorong Lew Lian flat involved the contents of its living room
A 68-year-old male resident died on Tuesday (1 Sept) after a fire broke out in a flat along Lorong Lew Lian.
Three others were also sent to the hospital during the incident, said the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) in a Facebook post on the same day.

SCDF extinguishes fire in 3rd-floor Lorong Lew Lian flat
SCDF was alerted to the fire at about 2:45pm on Tuesday, it said.
When it arrived, black smoke was seen coming out from a unit on the third floor of Block 8 Lorong Lew Lian, which is off Upper Serangoon Road.

The fire involved the contents of the living room, SCDF added.
It was extinguished using one water jet.
About 30 people from the block were evacuated as a precaution.
68-year-old man dies after being found unconscious in flat
During the operation, firefighters found a person lying unconscious in the living room.
SCDF conducted cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on him after bringing him out of the unit.
He was then conveyed to Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH) in an unconscious state.
The Singapore Police Force (SPF), which was alerted at the same time, said the 68-year-old man subsequently passed away.

3 others sent to hospital
Additionally, three other people were assessed by SCDF.
SPF said they were women aged between 51 and 94.
One of them had suffered from smoke inhalation while the other two felt breathless.
All three were conveyed to Singapore General Hospital (SGH) and TTSH.
Death of long-time resident ‘very unfortunate and sad’: Seah Kian Peng
Speaker of Parliament Seah Kian Peng noted in a Facebook post that the man who died had lived in the affected flat for many years.
His block is located in the oldest precinct in the constituency, revealed Mr Seah, who is also MP for the Braddell Heights division of Marine Parade-Braddell Heights GRC.
In fact, the Speaker had last seen the deceased “not so long ago”, he said, describing his death as “very unfortunate and sad”.
He was a friendly person by nature and will be missed, Mr Seah added.

No foul play suspected
The police do not suspect foul play, based on preliminary investigations.
Further police investigations are ongoing.
SCDF is also investigating the cause of the fire, it said.
